Kent Sharp, CEO of the Development Corporation of Abilene, announced his resignation on Nov. 27 to the DCOA Board of Directors.

Sharp has accepted a similar position in Sherman, Texas.

Kent Sharp has served Abilene in the DCOA since Sept. 2014, after serving as Executive Director of the Gainesville Economic Development Corporation, Inc.

Sharp and his family enjoyed their time in Abilene. "Working with my staff at the DCOA and the staff of the Abilene Industrial Foundation, our people built an award-winning economic development program," stated Sharp.

President of the DCOA, John Beckham, stated, "Abilene has been very blessed by Kent and his efforts."

According to Beckham, Sharp was instrumental in Abilene winning the first ever Community Economic Development Award in 2016.

Mr. Sharp will begin his new position in Sherman on Jan. 7, 2019.

Kent's wife, Angela Sharp, announced her resignation as well Dec. 3.

Angela has served as the Executive Director of Big Country CASA since Sept. 2015. Big Country CASA recruits and trains local volunteers to advocate in the court system for children who have been removed by CPS from abusive and/or neglectful homes.

"I have truly loved every minute of every day since I began with Big Country CASA," Angela stated. "Thank you for welcoming my family into the Abilene community, and for making us feel at home, and thank you for your support of this CASA program."

The DCOA and BCC will be appointing search committees to begin the search for Kent and Angela Sharp's replacements.
