City of Abilene considers ordinance on scooter, bike rentals

The City of Abilene is considering whether to regulate bike and scooter rentals like the Bird scooters that landed in the city in August.

People can walk up to the scooter, swipe a debit or credit and ride it to their destination.

The scooters are popular on college campuses and in areas like downtown.

The proposed ordinance would require a 2-year permit that costs $1,500. It would have to be renewed every year

There will be a first reading of the ordinance at Thursday's meeting.
