Former ACU student arrested for distributing child pornography

Jonathan Linares

A former Abilene Christian University student has been arrested for distribution of child pornography.

The Abilene Police Department received a tip in December from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

The investigation led them to 22-year-old Jonathan Linares.

According to police, Linares was distributing child pornography from July through December while enrolled at ACU.

He has since moved back home to Nashville, Tennessee.

Linares was arrested Friday.

Police say he used a popular social media app known as Tumblr to distribute the pornography.

Linares was the second ACU student arrested for distribution of child porn last week.

On Wednesday, police arrested Jacob Hutchison, 20, who is accused of distributing child porn from his dorm room.

Hutchison was also used social media apps like KiK, TikToc and SnapChat to distribute the graphic pictures.

KTXS contacted ACU for comment. A spokesperson said:

While no corner of our society is immune from these challenges, we do not tolerate this type of illegal and destructive behavior. We take these crimes seriously, have acted swiftly, and the ACU Police Department assisted the Abilene Police Department as it led the unrelated cases involving both former students. Each has withdrawn from the university and is no longer enrolled.

Police urge parents to monitor what apps their kids use and their internet usage.
