    Mike Degering

The funeral for an Abilene firefighter who died last week was held on Wednesday afternoon.

Mike Degering was remembered at a memorial service at Beltway Park Church's North Campus.

Degering died last Thursday, nearly three weeks after he was hurt in a motorcycle accident in Colorado.

Degering was on his way to visit the Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial in Colorado Springs.

Degering leaves behind a wife and three children.

After the memorial service, a funeral procession traveled to Degering's burial site.

The funeral procession left Beltway Park Church's North Campus and headed down Highway 351 and Ambler Avenue before turning north on to West Lake Road to the Texas State Veterans Cemetery.

The funeral procession included members of the Abilene Fire Department and several surrounding fire departments, as well as members of Degering's motorcycle club family.

People lined the route of the funeral procession, putting their hands over their hearts as it passed by them.

A GoFundMe page has raised more than $21,000 for Degering's family.
