High winds cause flight cancellations to, from Abilene

Wind gusts

High wind gust in both Abilene and Dallas-Fort Worth have forced American Airlines to cancel several flights to and from Abilene.

As of 4:15 p.m., both cities were seeing 40-plus mile per hour wind gusts.

To put that into perspective, those are tropical storm force winds.

As of 5 p.m., two flights from Abilene to Dallas had been canceled. Two flights in the opposite direction had also been canceled.

Abilene Regional Airport issued a warning about the cancellations.

“Due to the windy winter weather AA is cancelling flights ahead of time. Be sure to check or 800.433.7300 to check your flight status.”
