Homeless man accused of stabbing Abilene police officer in leg indicted

A homeless man accused of stabbing an Abilene police officer in the leg was indicted Thursday by a Taylor County grand jury.

Daniel John McCord, 37, was indicted for aggravated assault against a public servant.

In July, the owners of McKay’s Bakery called police. They had refused to let McCord inside the store because he "was demanding things and he appeared to be under the influence of drugs," according to Chief Stand Standridge.

When police tried to handcuff McCord, they say he stabbed officer Trevor McGuire in the right leg.

"Had this puncture been a few inches over, the outcome would have been tragically different," said Standridge.

MCord remains in the Taylor County Jail on bonds totaling more than $100,000.
