KTXS Forecast: Overnight cold front delivering cooler highs and rain chances

Storm Alert.png

Good morning and happy hump day! As you’re getting up conditions outside are mostly clear with lows in the mid/ upper 70s and winds are out of the southeast at 5-10 mph.

Wednesday afternoon we will begin mostly sunny but build in cloud cover through the day. Highs are still expected to be slightly above normal mainly in the mid/ upper 90s with southeast winds at 5-10 mph. There will be isolated rain chances through the day and increase overnight as out next cold front start to move into the region. This will make overnight lows cool to the upper 60s/ low 70s with mostly cloudy skies.

Early Thursday morning that cold front will begin moving through the Big Country. This will make the region mostly cloudy with north/ northeast winds at 5-15 mph. High temperatures will be below normal in the lower 90s with a 40-60 percent chance of scattered thundershowers across the Big Country. There will be the possibility of some isolated severe weather. Thursday night the rain chances will continue and lows will cool to the mid-60s/ low 70s.

Currently, for Friday through Tuesday, it looks like much of the region won’t see too much change. Afternoon highs through this period will remain below normal in the mid-80s/ low 90s with partly cloudy/ mostly cloudy skies. Winds will be from the northeast at 5-10 mph through the weekend, then turn to the southeast by the start of the coming week. Rain chances are expected to be consistent and hover between 30-50 percent clear into next week with a low severe weather threat. Overnight lows through this period are going to cool to the mid-60s/ low 70s with persisting rain and cloud cover.

Note: Models for this weather event are not in complete consensus and are showing a few different scenarios. One scenario would bring 1-2” of rainfall to the Big Country by the start of next week, versus 3-4”. Of course, locally higher amounts will be possible, as will possible ponding for some areas.

It’s important to note that these rain chances will be scattered, meaning they will be hit or miss for your specific location. However, the likelihood of your location getting at least some measurable amounts of rainfall are good.

Have a great day! -MV-
