ABILENE, Texas — Abilene police have released an update on a two-vehicle accident on Highway 83/84 Monday that sent six people to the hospital.
The accident occurred at around 7:45 a.m., just south of Interstate 20.
According to police, a Dodge Durango was headed south when the driver crossed the median, hit a light pole, went into the northbound lane. and rolled over. There were four people inside of the Durango: 43-year-old female driver, 31-year-old female passenger, 31-year-old male passenger, and 30-year-old male passenger.
After crossing into the northbound lane, the Durango hit a Ford Fiesta headed north with two people inside: 27-year-old driver and his one-year-old son.
Police stated that the driver of the Fiesta was wearing a seat belt, and his son was properly restrained in a car seat.
The driver of the Durango and the front-seat passenger were also wearing safety belts. It is unclear if the two rear passengers were restrained.
After being pulled from their vehicles with the jaws of life, all passengers were taken to Hendrick Medical Center.
The driver of the Ford Fiesta suffered severe injuries, but all other passengers appear to be stable.
No citations have been issued at this time.
Investigators are awaiting toxicology reports on the drivers, and the final report will take a few days to complete.
