ABILENE, Texas — Abilene police arrested a man with a gun on the McMurry University campus.
Police said they got a call just after 8 p.m. Tuesday about an armed subject.
After talking with students and the suspect, police determined it started as an altercation off campus between Bryson Martinez, 22, and another individual.
Police say Martinez threatened the other person with the gun.
No threats were made toward students or the University.
Martinez was arrested at 8:16 p.m. and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and public intoxication.
According to an email Dr. Allen Withers, the Dean of Students, sent to students at 10:09 p.m., Martinez is "not affiliated" with McMurry University.
But according to a public records search, Martinez is "affiliated" with both McMurry and Abilene Christian University.
Martinez was on the Warhawk football team in 2014 as a freshman.
He red shirted that season before he transferred to ACU.
It does not appear he played a down for either school.
Martinez was arrested in July for possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
According to jail records, the Taylor County District Attorney's Office rejected thepossession of a controlled substance charge -- which is a state jail felony -- in October.
The possession of marijuana is currently scheduled for trial in January.
