Memorial service held in Hamlin for murdered elderly woman
HAMLIN, Texas —
The parking lot was full on Wednesday morning at a church in Hamlin, where dozens of people paid their final respects to a murdered elderly Jones County woman.
A memorial service was held for 66-year-old Alice "Sissy" Brigham at the North Central Baptist Church in Hamlin on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.
Brigham's family requested that the news media not be allowed inside of the church during her memorial service.
Jones County Sheriff Greg Arnwine said that 39-year-old Mitchel Glen Butler of Hamlin killed Brigham last Friday at her home on County Road 130.
Sissy's father, James Brigham, told KTXS News that he found his daughter severely beaten inside of the home that they both lived in.
Butler spent nearly two days on the run before he was arrested on Saturday night by a state trooper after he ran out of gas on the side of I-20 in Eastland County.
Butler, who is facing murder charges, remains in the Jones County Jail on a $150,000 bond, according to the Jones County Sheriff's Office.
