Abilene police say the man who was shot and killed Monday night was sleeping with the suspect's wife.

Arthur Cantu. 37, was shot multiple times with a 12 gauge shot gun, according to Police Chief Stan Standridge. When police arrived at the home in the 2400 block of Hardy Street about 10:30 p.m., Cantu was dead on the front porch.

Just after midnight, police arrested George Almanza, 47, at Hendrick Medical Center where he was visiting a friend, according to Standridge. His bond was set at $250,000.

Standridge said Almanza had gone to the home to confront Cantu and his wife.

The wife told police she had not been with her husband for several months, but Standridge said they were still legally married. According to Taylor County court records, she has not filed for divorce.

The murder weapon has not been recovered. Standridge said Almanza could have been tossed out of a moving vehicle.

Around 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, detectives were searching around Old Anson Road at I-20 and along Jameson Road.

The department is also using police cadets to help with the search.

Standridge said if you find the gun, do not touch it and call police right away.

Tuesday afternoon, a judge signed a warrant to search Almanza's car. They're hoping the gun is still in it.

Two young children in the home at the time of the shooting were unharmed. Concerned about their well-being, police contacted Child Protective Services.
