Victim shot at south Abilene apartment complex dies

Police say the man who was shot overnight at a south Abilene apartment complex has died.

Shortly after midnight, police were dispatched to the Stonegate Apartments in the 5100 block of Fairmont Street.

When they arrived, police found a man in an upstairs apartment with a gunshot wound to the upper torso. He was taken to Hendrick Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police say two men were in the apartment. The victim answered a knock at the door and was shot by two suspects.

The second man in the apartment said the suspects then took off. They have not been caught.

The victim’s name is not being released pending notification of next of kin.

According to APD crime stats, this is the third homicide of 2018.

Police have not released a motive.
