Wild video: Inmate busts out, climbs on to Taylor County patrol car traveling down highway

Witnesses said that it was like something out of a movie, but this was real-life!

Jason and Jennifer Mustain, of Alpine, were on the last leg of a long drive home from Michigan when a Taylor County Sheriff's Office patrol car passed them on Highway 277 just outside of Wichita Falls at about 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

“Something doesn't look right with that car," Jason said. "It looks like the back door is open.”

As the patrol car passed by them, they saw an inmate's feet hanging out of it, which is when Jason called 911.

Jason said the inmate, later identified as 31-year-old Martin Gregory Estrada of Abilene, worked for about 10 minutes to get out of the car and then climbed on to the car's roof.

"At first, he was laying across the top of the roof like you see in the movies," Jason said. "Then he tried to stand up and eventually sat there chillin'."

Estrada sat on the roof of the car for about five minutes before two Wichita County deputies pulled up behind the patrol car.

The Taylor County deputy stopped and Estrada jumped off the roof.

Estrada was then taken into custody.

"It had been an uneventful trip until we got back to Texas (laughter)," Jason said.

Estrada was booked into the Taylor County Jail on a slew of charges and is being held on bonds totaling $680,000.
