CALLAHAN COUNTY, Texas — A bus carrying 25 Texas prisoners caught fire Wednesday on Hwy 36 about 30 miles south of Abilene.

The inmates, referred to as “offenders” by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, were traveling between Gatesville and Abilene.

None of the inmates were injured and were "removed safely,” TDCJ spokesman Jason Clark said.

The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately known.

A second bus was sent to pick up the inmates.
