Callahan County fire: 9 animals killed, house destroyed, donations sought

CALLAHAN COUNTY, Texas -- Nine animals died and a house on County Road 251 near Clyde was destroyed by fire late Friday.

A GoFundMe page has been established to help homeowners Mark and Peggy Richman. As of 7 p.m. Saturday, $600 of a $50,000 goal had been reached.

"They lost everything including nine dogs," said Bill Bergeron, Mark Richman's Dallas-based brother-in-law in a GoFundMe message. "Praise God no one was at home when the fire broke out. Mark and Peggy help so many folks out. Please give them some of their kindness back."

The fire was so large that it could be seen for many miles.

According to the Taylor County Sheriff's Office, four people lived at the house that went up in flames.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, although a space heater could have played a factor.
