COLORADO CITY, Texas — Colorado City's mayor has died.
Jim Baum passed away Sunday at the age of 82.
KVMC 1320 AM, the country music radio station that Baum owned, said he lost his battle with cancer.
Baum was diagnosed with acute myleoid leukemia just 11 days ago, according to the station.
Baum had been mayor since 2013. But it was not his first stint as mayor.
He was also the Mayor of Colorado City from 1987-2001.
Baum was a former minor league ball player, playing catcher for two seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization in the 1950s, author -- writing several books including The City With A Privy, Mitchell County Trivia, and Jails, Bails & Other Tales -- and broadcaster.
He was known as the "Voice of Mitchell County."
"Jim was a gentleman and a great local broadcaster," said Michael Schneider, Vice President of Texas Association of Broadcasters. "He truly cared about KAUM and KVMC being THE source for information in Mitchell Co. and he covered that community well. His passing is a big loss to that community and to broadcasting in Texas."
Baum was born in Abilene in 1936 and graduated from Abilene High School.
He is survived by his wife Linda.
KTXS will have more on this breaking story throughout the day on Monday.
