The search is over for a boater who went missing on O.H. Ivie Reservoir in Concho County.

The Lake Ivie Volunteer Fire Department confirmed the man's body was found less than half a mile from the Concho Park Marinia. They said he "apparently drowned after crashing into the shore."

Family members identified him as 65-year-old Benny Frank Henderson of Lake Ivie.

According to the Concho County Sheriff's Office, they got a call at 9 a.m. Tuesday that Henderson had gone fishing the night before and never made it home.

Seven game wardens from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Sheriff Chad Miller and three deputies went to the lake to search for Henderson.

They found Henderson's wrecked boat and determined that after he "beached his boat on land," Henderson tried to walk home, according to Miller.

Officer tracked Henderson's footprints until they disappeared in a small cove.

Officers then used side scan sonar on boats, along with an aerial drone and the helicopter from Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo, to search for Henderson.

About 6:10 p.m., officers found Henderson's body "in the small cove where he had entered the water."

The body was sent to the Lubbock County Medical Examiner for autopsy.

Henderson's family told KTXS that he and his wife had lived in Odessa until a few months ago "when they sold their home and moved to Lake Ivie to live out their golden years."

"We’re deeply saddened by the loss of this amazing man," said a family member who did not want to be identified.

Henderson was a member of the Lake Ivie Volunteer Fire Department.

"Our VFD is saddened also over losing a fellow firefighter," said Assistant Chief Bill West.
