DPS identifies driver killed in wrong-way crash on I-20 in Callahan County

The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified the driver blamed for a deadly wrong-way crash on I-20 in Callahan County.

According to the preliminary crash report, Daniel Lyn Shay, 68, of Abilene, was traveling east in the westbound lanes of I-20.

Around 9:15 p.m. Monday, Shay hit an SUV near Buck Creek Road, about a mile east of Abilene. His car overturned and came to rest in the median.

The SUV also overturned and landed in the barrow ditch.

The driver of the SUV was trapped about about two hours.

He was taken to Hendrick Medical Center with critical injuries.
