Merkel police are warning about a scam involving WTU Energy.

Someone is calling customers from an 800 number claiming to work for WTU Energy.

They're telling customers to "pay immediately via "moneypaks" or have your electricity turned off within the next 15 minutes."

Police contacted WTU Energy and confirmed the calls are not from them. They said "moneypaks" are not a method of payment they accept.

"If you have questions regarding your energy services or billing, we recommend that you contact your provider directly," police said "NEVER release any account or banking information to a third party or someone you don't know."
