Rattlesnakes take over state capitol building in Austin

The Sweetwater Jaycees are in Austin this week promoting the "World's Largest Rattlesnake Roundup."

The roundup was originally started to control the population of venomous snakes in the Sweetwater area.

The over-population of rattlesnakes was hurting local farmers and ranchers who were losing livestock to these natural predators.

This week, visitors to the capitol can learn about snake safety and pet a rattlesnake.

The "World's Largest Rattlesnake Roundup" is March 7-10 at the Nolan County Coliseum.
