Tank battery in rural Jones County goes up in flames

A tank battery in rural Jones County went up in flames early on Tuesday afternoon and could be seen from many miles away.

The fire started shortly after noon on Tuesday after a tank battery near FM 2746 and FM 707 in rural Jones County was struck by lightning.

Multiple volunteer fire departments from around Jones County responded to the fire and quickly began combating the flames coming from the tank battery.

Units with the Jones County Sheriff's Office shut down the roads surrounding the site of the blaze.

Firefighters are very close to having the fire under control.
