Brown County commissioner gives pecan orchard permission to burn despite ban
BROWN COUNTY, Texas —
Although Brown County is currently under a burn ban, one commissioner gave a pecan orchard that is 300 acres an exception to following the rule and is allowing the site to burn for two months.
Pecan Bayou Farms is located near the Lake Brownwood Dam and falls under Commissioner Joel Kelton's precinct.
Kelton defended the decision to KTXS Thursday and said he received an OK from that area's fire chief first before approving the burn.
Kelton said he didn't want to disrupt the pecan orchard's "livelihood" and has often rejected such requests.
Brown County Commissioners unanimously agreed Monday to implement an emergency order for a burn ban.
