Brownwood Police Department warns public of overdue library book text scam

The Brownwood Police Department is warning the public of fraudulent text messages being sent to people that are demanding payment for overdue library books.

According to the Brownwood Police Department, people have been receiving text messages from an entity claiming to be the Brownwood Public Library requesting them to pay fines for overdue library books.

However, the text messages are actually a scam and are just looking to extort money from people.

The Brownwood Public Library does send out text messages about books being late, but they never ask for payment or threaten to send somebody out to forcibly take back any overdue books to the library.

Anybody with any questions about the fraudulent text messages is asked to call the Brownwood Public Library.
