BROWNWOOD, Texas — The Texas Department of Criminal Justice has fired the lieutenant of a Brownwood prison.
Daniel Denton of the Thomas R. Havins Unit in Brownwood was fired on September 4, according to TDCJ.
Denton was recommended for dismissal on June 29 after leaving his post for several hours without permission, which was his second violation in less than six months.
Denton had been reinstated in early June and placed on probation because of an excessive force incident, according to TDCJ.
Denton did not respond to a request for comment from KTXS News.
A former TDCJ correctional officer previously told KTXS News that Denton tried getting his colleagues to cover up the excessive force incident.
