State and local agencies urge water safety this weekend while visiting area lakes

According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, five people died across the State of Texas over the Fourth of July weekend as a result of drowning.

One of those deaths was a 58-year-old Ranger man who drowned at Lake Leon.

Lake Brownwood is expecting a large turnout this weekend with its boat parade and fireworks show.

Patrol Chief Troy Henderson is advising all of those that are visiting the lake this weekend to use extra caution.

"We make our lake safe. We stop everybody we can to make sure they have the right safety equipment," Henderson said. "We try to educate more than we write people tickets."

Henderson said that the last drowning at Lake Brownwood happened back in 2015.
