TxDOT pretreats roads in Brownwood area ahead of possible wintry precipitation
BROWNWOOD, Texas —
The Texas Department of Transportation has already pretreated the roads in the nine counties that cover its Brownwood district.
Areas of the Big Country on Saturday were placed under a winter weather advisory, and TxDOT has taken the step of having pretreated roads Friday with a brine solution, which is a water and salt mix.
"We don't want you to get a false sense of security," TxDOT spokesman Andrew Carlson said. "Yes the brine does help, and once the roads do get icy, we put down sand or salt, but don't get overconfident because icy roads are still icy roads."
Light freezing rain is possible in Brown County after midnight Saturday and before 10 a.m. Sunday.
TxDOT crews will be monitoring the roads throughout the night and treating them with deicing materials when necessary, according to Carlson.
The agency is urging people traveling to church Sunday morning to check the road conditions before leaving their homes at DriveTexas.org.
