Sledgehammer used in attempted burglary of Abilene pharmacy

The Abilene Police Department says a burglary suspect used a sledgehammer in a failed attempt to steal prescription drugs from a pharmacy on the south side of the city.

Around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, a man dressed in black used a sledgehammer to break the glass at James McCoy's Drug Store South on Antilley Road, across the street from the Abilene Regional Medical Center.

The burglar was only able to punch a small hole in the plastic-coated glass. He then "put his hand inside the glass to pull on the glass panel."

Ultimately, the burglar did not get in and ran off before police arrived.
