Snyder man sentenced to 14 years in prison for child sex crime

Timothy Benz

A Snyder man was sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for a child sex crime.

Timothy Benz pleaded guilty on Thursday to one count of enticement of a minor.

Benz was arrested by the United States Marshals on May 9.

According to the indictment, he used his cell phone to "persuade, induce and entice" a girl under the age of 18 to engage in sexual activity.

Benz also asked the girl if she was "attracted to older men."

Federal prosecutors said Benz had been in contact with several minors even after the incident that occurred in September of 2017.

"Benz has continued to contact minors in a sexually suggestive way, even after the contact led to both the present federal case and the companion state case," according to court documents.

In addition to the prison time, Benz was also sentenced to 10 years supervised release.

When he gets out, Benz must register as a sex offender.

He will not be allowed to consume alcohol, have unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18, or have a computer or access to the internet.
