2 fishermen jump off boat that caught fire on Lake Fort Phantom

ABILENE, Texas — Two fishermen bailed off a boat moments before it caught fire.

The owner told KTXS they were fishing on Lake Fort Phantom when they heard the boat backfire around 4:30 p.m.

Both men jumped off and swam to shore.

The boat burned in the middle of the lake, creating smoke that could be seen for miles.

The game warden and other crews used boat propellers to splash water on the boat and put out the fire.

The owner said that he had just bought the boat.
