4 arrested in connection to early Wednesday morning drive-by shootings

    Authorities have arrested four people in connection to multiple drive-by shootings that occurred early on Wednesday morning in Abilene, which has recently seen an increase in drive-by shootings.

    Four people were taken into custody on charges that included deadly conduct, tampering with evidence and drug charges.

    Sierra Cortez-Bernal, 22, Ananda Desre Leal, 19, Antonio Larue Hagans, 18, and Antonio Deshon Rogers, 21, all of Abilene, are all accused of being involved in a drive-by shooting in the 800 block of Carver Street early on Wednesday morning.

    Authorities arrived and said that they found several shell casings at the residence that was hit by gunfire and inside of the home were a 70-year-old female and a 19-year-old male.

    A little over an hour later, authorities were called to the Stonegate Apartments on the 5100 block of Fairmont Street, where callers reported hearing multiple gunshots.

    When police officers arrived at the Stonegate Apartments, they found shell casings from different caliber weapons.

    No injuries were reported as a result of either of the drive-by shootings.

    Cortez-Bernal is charged with possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, and third-degree felony deadly conduct.

    Leal is charged with third-degree felony deadly conduct.

    Hagans is charged with third-degree felony deadly conduct.

    Rogers is charged with possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, third-degree felon tampering with evidence and third-degree felony deadly conduct.

    Authorities said that more arrests related to the investigation are forthcoming.

    On Tuesday, the Abilene Police Department released crime statistics, which stated that out of 388 aggravated assaults in the City of Abilene in 2018, 28 of them were drive-by shootings.
