ABILENE, Texas — Abilene Christian University's game design program is ranked the 24th best in the world by the Princeton Review.
ACU's game design program is the only one from Texas in the top 25 of the rankings.
ACU's Digital Entertainment Technology program began in 2007 and became a major in 2010.
ACU's Digital Entertainment Technology program helps teach students how to use art and storytelling to develop video games.
Dr. Brian Burton, an associate professor at ACU, said that he loves seeing students using the university's lab to create new experiences.
"It’s part of their childhood," said Burton. "And now they want to give that back to the next generation or develop ideas they’ve always wanted to experience."
Drake Pamplin is a senior at ACU who has loved video games since he was a first grader.
"It’s just like problem solving and there’s really not one solution for any given problem," said Pamplin.
Pamplin, who will graduate from ACU's Digital Entertainment Technology program in December, said that his time in the program showed him that video gaming is more than just using controllers.
"It’s more work than it is play," Pamplin said.
