MITCHELL COUNTY, Texas — An Abilene man is back in custody after police say he escaped custody in Mitchell County and stole a police vehicle before he was caught in Snyder.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Christopher Charles Minor, 29, escaped Wednesday morning.
He then stole a Mitchell County Sheriff's Office vehicle and drove away.
The Ford truck contained body armor and weapons.
A short time later, Snyder police released an alert on Facebook warning residents to lock their doors and stay inside.
"There has been an escape of a dangerous inmate in the area of Avenue A and 35th Street."
The Snyder Independent School District went on lock down at the request of the Snyder Police Department.
"All students are safe and under the supervision of staff and faculty. Parents will not be allowed in the buildings until the lock down has been lifted."
DPS said Minor abandoned the stolen truck in Snyder and ran.
He was taken into custody shortly before 10:30 a.m.
The lockdown at Snyder ISD was then lifted.
