An animal rescue group in Abilene saved a momma dog and her nine puppies after they were dumped in church parking lot.

The 5-year-old boxer mix and all nine of her two week old puppies were left April 26 at North Side Baptist Church.

A picture of the dogs was posted on social media and it caught the eye of Paw Angel Animal Rescue.

"I saw the picture and it just broke my heart and I called Angel and we went and rescued the dogs," said Misty Boerger.

Misty Boerger and Angel Urban loaded up the momma dog and the pups into the backseat of their car.

"I just don't know how someone could do that, leaving momma and two week old babies," said Boerger.

The momma dog, which they named Dory, needed vet care.

"We found lots of wounds on her that were opened and draining," said Urban.

A tumor was detected in one of the puppy's throats. She had to be euthanized.

Dory and her surviving pups will be adopted out soon to loving homes.
