After 5-1 school board vote, Chris Hagler's contract renewed with Anson

ANSON, Texas - Monday night discussions got somewhat heated at a school board meeting, of which after nearly 3 ½ hours of deliberations led to the contract renewal of Anson head football coach and AD Chris Hagler.

A board meeting was scheduled weeks ago with Hagler's contract and future a big part of the agenda. Discussions arose after reports of parent displeasure that led to raising questions about the Anson athletic department and its leadership.

The executive session lasted nearly three hours, after an open forum had numerous parents speak in favor of the four-year Anson ISD coach. One spoke against Hagler, wishing to see the athletic director role split between boys and girls, saying one coach overseeing both resembled that of a "monarchy."

But after closed session deliberations, the board voted 5-1 in favor of Hagler's renewal. Keith Graham the only member to cast his vote in opposition.

Hagler has gone 26-22 in 4 seasons at the helm of Tiger football, with three straight playoff appearances.
