Anson man indicted for sexual assault of a child, awaiting another trial in New Mexico

    An Anson man has been indicted in Jones County for sexual assault of a child.

    Eric James Moreno, 37, was indicted February 27 on a 1st degree felony charge of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child.

    According to court documents, the assault was reported on August 28, 2015.

    The indictment charges Moreno with intentionally and knowingly causing the penetration of a child who was younger than 14 years of age, with the defendant's finger.

    According to the Jones County Sheriff's Office, Moreno was arrested Saturday, December 22 on a warrant.

    He was later released from the Jones County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

    Moreno is also awaiting trial in New Mexico on another child sex crime.

    He is facing a 2nd degree charge of Criminal Sexual Contact of Minor.

    The trial for the second charge is scheduled for May 8 in Lovington, NM.
