The Clyde High School senior protesting his in-school suspension over nail polish appeared on Good Morning America.

Trevor Wilkinson and his great grandfather, Leroy, spoke to GMA for a story that aired Monday on KTXS.

"It's to remove discrimination, sexism, homophobia, racism in small towns that feel like they can enforce a dress code or rules that completely go against how people feel and completely go against freedom of expression and completely break the federal law," said Trevor.

Wilkinson was suspended Nov. 30 for showing up to school with polish on his finger nails.

The Clyde CISD dress code prohibits male students from wearing makeup or nail polish.

An online petition that he started garnered attention from around the country. More than 80,000 people had signed it as of Monday afternoon.

"I don't understand why its any kind of a big deal. Who does it harm?" said Leroy. "I'd like to see them just drop it. That's what they should do."
