Elderly driver crashes into Family Dollar in south Abilene

(Tavish Leffall/KTXS)

An elderly driver crashed through the front of the Family Dollar at Barrow and South 27th streets.

Police say the 93-year-old man was in the parking lot when he hit the gas, instead of the brake.

His Chevy Avalanche came crashing through the front glass around 3 p.m., narrowly missing propane tanks.

Gregory Sprencel, owner of Jump Zone next door, heard the crash.

"I kind of walked towards the front door, glanced out and saw broken glass all over the side walk. I walked further and saw the truck sticking out of the dollar store," said Sprencel.

No one in side the store was hurt.

The driver was not cited.

Family Dollar will remain closed until they get the mess cleaned up.
