Firefighters battled a fire at a two story duplex in northeast Abilene.

At 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, the fire department was called to a home the 2300 block of Patriot Commons Road -- off Highway 351 and East Lake Road.

When they arrived, heavy smoke and flames were shooting through the roof which eventually collapsed.

A man, his wife and 4-year-old daughter were home when the fire started. They made it out safely.

Bob Macion told KTXS he was washing dishes when he noticed water dripping down the wall. So he went upstairs where he saw smoke.

“I told my wife to get out of the house. Left everything behind," Macion said.

Macion said a couple and their kids live in the other side of the duplex. We don't know whether they were home at the time.

Damage is estimated at $50,000.

The fire department says the exact cause of the fire is undetermined.
