SAN ANTONIO- A San Antonio family held funeral services Wednesday for a soldier who died in a helicopter crash in Egypt.
Dallas Garza Jr., 34, passed away on Nov. 12, 2020 when the Black Hawk helicopter he was piloting went down in Sinai, Egypt. Garza was one of five soldiers killed in the crash.
Services were held at Community Bible Church, just off Loop 1604 near Gold Canyon Road.
The Garza Family says no more than 350 people were allowed to attend and face coverings were required.
Dallas graduated high school in North Carolina, but San Antonio has always been home base.
“This is always our home. This is our family and every vacation or whatever they said, ‘Let’s go home’,” said his mother Maria De Jesus Garza.
Not long after graduating from high school in 2005, Garza followed in his father’s footsteps and enlisted into the Army. Garza was just six years from retirement and hoped to fly commercially after retiring from the military.
Garza leaves behind three children and a fiancée.
After the funeral, Garza will be buried in a private ceremony at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
