Jones County murder suspect arrested in Eastland County after running out of gas

The man wanted for a murder near Hamlin was arrested late Saturday night in Eastland County after he ran out of gas.

Mitchel Glen Butler, 39, of Hamlin, was booked into the Eastland County Jail around 11 p.m.

According to Jones County Sheriff Greg Arnwine, Butler ran out of gas on the side of I-20.

A state trooper was stopping to make sure Butler was okay when he recognized Butler and the vehicle from the description released to law enforcement by the Jones County Sheriff's Office.

Butler is accused of beating Alice "Sissy" Brigham on Friday at her home on CR 130.

James Brigham came home around 2 p.m. and found his 66-year-old daughter on the floor.

Sissy told her dad that Butler beat her. She died the same day at Hamlin Memorial Hospital.

A warrant was then issued for Butler's arrest.

Brigham's funeral is Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Central Baptist Church in Hamlin.
