SAN ANGELO, Texas — A man was shot and killed after pulling a knife on San Angelo police during a domestic disturbance.
Police responded to 2102 Raney Street around 12:30 a.m.
Someone called 911 to report Adam Lee Mendez, 38, was punching a woman inside the home.
When they arrived, police located Mendez and the victim.
"An altercation ensued during which time (Mendez) displayed a knife," police said in a news release. "Officers utilized less lethal devices, but these were unsuccessful."
Police said he refused to drop the knife.
When Mendez approached officers, an officer shot him.
Officers began life saving measures on Mendez who was then transported to the hospital by the San Angelo Fire Department.
Mendez died at the hospital.
The Texas Rangers are investigating the deadly shooting.
The involved officers have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard operating procedure for officer involved shootings.
