Man swallows marijuana during Abilene traffic stop

Pedro Mares

Abilene police say a man tried to swallow the evidence during a traffic stop.

Police stopped Pedro Jose Mares III of Lewisville on Saturday night on North 7th Street for driving without his headlights.

The officer said he could smell marijuana in the vehicle. When he searched it, he found “a torn baggie.”

The officer then checked Mares’ mouth.

“He had a green tongue and green leafy particles in his mouth,” according to the arrest report.

The officer later found less than two ounces of marijuana in Mares' pocket.

He “admitted to eating the marijuana.”

Mares was charged with possession of marijuana and tampering with evidence.
