A grass fire burning in May forced residents to evacuate their homes Saturday afternoon.

Multiple fire departments are battling the fire in the area of County Road 406 and County Road 423. All people that live east of that location were ordered to evacuate.

The Texas A&M Forest Service estimates it has burned 410 acres as of 5 p.m.

Phillip Truitt with the Texas A&M Forest Service said dozers put a containment line around the Mcilroy fire and forward progress has been stopped. It is now 85% contained.

Truitt thanked all the fire departments on scene -- Northlake Brownwood, Burkett, Brownwood FD, May, Dam, Bangs, Rising Starr, Early, and Lake Brownwood Bridge.
