BRECKENRIDGE, Texas — An old Jewish synagogue was destroyed by an early morning fire in Breckenridge.
At 5:20 a.m. Sunday, the Breckenridge Fire Department was dispatched to the old Jewish Synagogue located at 302 North Parks Street.
The fire department arrived to heavy flames on the east end of building and flames shooting through the roof.
The fire was knocked down in about an hour.
Crews remained on scene until about 11 a.m. putting out hot spots.
The brick walls had to be torn down because they were very unstable, according Fire Chief Calvin Chaney.
Police officers woke up the people in a house that is less than four feet away from the synagogue and got them out.
Firefighters were able to keep the home from catching on fire.
