ABILENE, Texas — The 2018 Abilene Citizen of the Year was announced at the Abilene Chamber of Commerce's annual membership banquet on Thursday evening.
Tim Lancaster, the outgoing President and CEO of Hendrick Health System was named the 2018 Abilene Citizen of the Year on Thursday evening.
Lancaster was presented with the award by former Mayor of Abilene Norm Archibald, who was the Abilene Citizen of the Year in 2017.

Tim Lancaster was recognized by the Abilene Chamber of Commerce as Abilene’s 2018 Citizen of the Year at its Annual Membership Celebration and Banquet on September 20, 2018.
Mr. Lancaster is the president and chief executive officer of Hendrick Health System, having served in this position since 2004. Hendrick Health system is a Baptist-affiliated, 525-bed hospital that serves a 29-county area of Central and West Texas and employs approximately 3,400 people, one of the largest employers in Abilene.
He has devoted his life to the betterment of healthcare, job creation, economic development and community relationships.
Mr. Lancaster worked with other community leaders to raise over $50 million to bring the Texas Tech Schools of Pharmacy, Nursing and Public Health to Abilene.
He fought hard to ensure that lower income patients have adequate access to healthcare through the establishment of the Abilene Community Health Center which provides comprehensive health services to those who are considered as “at risk’ for lack of healthcare.
Mr. Lancaster has served in leadership roles in various state and national hospital associations and, in February 2018, received the Earl M. Collier Award for distinguished Health Care Administration, the highest honor the Texas Hospital Association bestows.
He currently serves as the Vice Chair for the Texas Tech University System Board of Regents. He has also served in leadership positions with the Abilene Chamber of Commerce, Abilene Industrial Foundation, Community Foundation of Abilene, United Way of Abilene and the Boy Scouts of America.
Mr. Lancaster and his wife, Regina, have two married sons and are active members of First Baptist Church, where he serves as a Deacon.
The Outstanding Citizen of the Year award has been given annually since 1946 to a person or persons who has made an impact on the city of Abilene. Individuals and organizations were invited to nominate someone they thought contributed in an outstanding manner to the betterment of the Abilene community over the last year, several years or a lifetime in determining the award.
The award was presented at the Chamber’s annual banquet at the Abilene Convention Center by the 2017 winner, former mayor Norm Archibald.
