Police: San Angelo man kills dog, shoots its owner

Efren L. Delatorre

A San Angelo man is accused of killing a dog and then shooting the dog’s owner.

Just before 1 a.m., police responded to a call of shots being fired at East 11th and Volney streets.

When officers arrived, they found a man “bleeding profusely from the arm.” He was transported to the hospital and later released.

Several witnesses identified the gunman as 35-year-old Efren Delatorre.

Police found Delatorre at a home in the 1200 block of Volney Street.

According to police, Delatorre, who knows the victim, went to the man's house, shot his dog and then shot the man. He’s also accused of pointing his gun at a woman who was at the victim’s home.

Police executed a search warrant at Delatorre’s home and found the gun they believe was used in the shooting.

Delatorre is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and cruelty to an animal.

His bond was set at $50,000.
