Re-Indicted: Abilene man accused of soliciting minors online
ABILENE, Texas —
An Abilene man was re-indicted Thursday by a Taylor County Grand Jury for attempting to meet with a 13-year-old girl for sex in 2014.
John Michael Howard, 45, was charged with online solicitation of a minor after he replied to a Taylor County Sheriff's Office detective who created a fake Craigslist posting, which involved the detective claiming to be a young girl looking for a man she had met at a grocery store.
Howard replied to the posting two days later with pictures of himself in a military uniform that showed his name and later sent nude photos.
The detective told Howard he was a 13-year-old girl and Howard acknowledged he could go to jail, but then Howard started to talk about having sex with the underage girl.
During the conversation, Howard mentioned several times that he wanted to meet up with the girl.
The detective set up the meeting at an Abilene hotel and Howard agreed to those plans.
When Howard arrived at the hotel, he was met by investigators, who found two condoms in his pocket.
Howard then admitted to authorities that he was meeting with a 13-year-old girl.
