Strawn Greyhounds set for state title match with Balmorhea

The 2017 UIL state football championships begin Wednesday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, starting with a good six-man Division II title game between Strawn and Balmorhea.ABILENE, Texas -

The Greyhounds won state in 2003 and 2008 – going for the program’s third title, but the Bears come in with the experience having just been here last season as a finalist, losing to Richland Springs.

Dewaine Lee's Greyhounds are 14-0 this season, winning every game by the 45-point mercy rule except for its state semifinal win over Milford. Tanner Hodgskins leads Strawn as a key factor in both offense and defensive plans, but it’s the young lady on the special team unit giving this team an extra spark.

Senior K-Lani Nava will become what is believed to be the first female kicker at UIL State on Wednesday. The historical achievement is one they hope doesn't’t overshadow the game, but one that will forever be linked to the Strawn program.

It will surely be a big night, as the Greyhounds go for state championship No. 3 beginning Wednesday at 2 p.m.
