TAYLOR COUNTY, Texas — Taylor County Judge Downing Bolls declared a local state of disaster on Thursday afternoon at an emergency commissioner's meeting.
This declaration comes just hours after The City of Abilene announced its first positive case of COVID-19 and 13 days following Gov. Abbott's declaration of a state of disaster in Texas.
Beginning on Thursday, all gatherings in Taylor County are limited to under 10 people in one "confined space, room or area." If a person "knowingly or intentionally violates" this rule, they are punishable to a fine up to $1,000 and are subject to jail time up to 180 days.
The proclamation also activates the county's emergency management plan and allows it to take "any actions necessary to promote health and suppress the virus, including the quarantine of persons and occupied structures."
