TxDOT's completion of bridge in Brown County delayed until July

The Texas Department of Transportation's project to widen the lanes under the Highway 84/183 railroad bridge located between Zephyr and Early has hit a snag.

According to the TxDOT's spokesman for their office in Brownwood, Andrew Carlson, the project's completion date is being pushed back until July "in order to increase the vertical clearance on the bridge."

"After construction had already begun, we decided to increase the vertical clearance of the bridge to the latest standards," Carlson said. "This will allow for more over-sized cargo loads to pass under the bridge."

The project will widen the lanes under the bridge from two to five lanes, which will be comprised of two travel lanes in each direction and a center turning lane, according to Carlson.

Construction on the $12 million project began in August of 2016.
